Mentor Project
In 2001 Thumbprint worked with Furniture Matters, a furniture recycling charity, and Lancaster Youth and Community to set up Pedal Power, a cycle recycling project in Lancaster.
Thumbprint's role was to support people with learning disabilities at Pedal Power.

As part of this we we worked with a volunteer with learning disabilities to support him to act as a mentor for others at Pedal Power. He helped people to understand the work done there.
He has encouraged people to come down to Pedal Power and get involved with the project. While on the project he helped them to settle in and do their voluntary work. He showed them where things were, what tools and materials to use. He worked alongside them and encouraged them.

The Mentor Project was funded by Shell Better Britain Campaign.
The mentor project was very successful. As more projects get going we will encourage further people to get involved as mentors. We are aiming to have a mentor working with people on the new Furniture Renovation project as it gets under way and we already have a volunteer for this.
